The upcoming Flathead Tea Party at Depot Park on 4-4 is an opportunity for the People of the Flathead Valley to express your outrage in a peaceful manner at the out of control spending that is happening right now by our elected officials in Washington DC. During the last 3 weeks I have spoken to many citizens who are really frightened, or worse, at a point of depression and frustration over what they see happening in our country today. Many feel that America, as we know it, will be lost forever. No one in Washington DC is speaking for us anymore. We, the silent majority, have got to find our voices and send a message to Congress that we are not going to take it anymore! In Colonial America our forefathers held the Boston Tea Party in revolt of heavy handed taxes levied upon them by England. Does Congress not remember this history? Does Congress think that this outrageous spending will not result in tax increases? Does Congress not know that many, many Americans are struggling to make ends meet in this deep recession? Need I remind anyone that the Flathead Valley has an unemployment rate of 12.2%. How can adding the burden of increasing taxes on all Americans benefit America? Glen Beck is right when he says that we have lost the values and principles that have made our country great. If you agree with what you have just read, then join us at Depot Park at Noon on 4-4 and stand with others who feel as you do. Let's send a message to our elected officials by showing, in the sheer number of people who attend this event, that we want a return to fiscal responsibility from our government, that we are tired of the corruption and cronyism displayed by politicians today, that we want to be ruled by the Constitution and all that the Constitution stands for and not by the policies that are coming out of Washington DC today. Laissez-faire is a doctrine that opposes government intervention in all aspects of society in general and the marketplace in particular. The phrase originated back in 1680 when a French finance minister asked a group of businessmen how their government could best assist the merchants. Their reply was “Laissez-nous faire” meaning “Leave us be”. In 1773 Benjamin Franklin co-authored a book that introduced the concept of “laissez-faire” to America. And on December 16th of that same year, angry American patriots, fed up with their meddling government, sent a bold message by dumping a shipload of heavily taxed tea into the cold waters of Boston harbor.
